DC trip day four afternoon

After a great nap we ventured out to are the monuments and memorials. Our first stop was the Lincoln Memorial. Wow. First things first, he really is huge! It's an amazing space with a beautiful view of dc. They ate redoing the reflecting pool and it was still breath taking. The speeches carved in granite, the many cultures represented in awe at all that man dud as a leader and president of a broken country. Beneath the monument is a great visitor spot to see how it was constructed but they also take the opportunity to highlight MLK Jr. His speech and work.
Then we heeded to the vietnam veterans memorial. Robert and I were both astonished at the number of names and the length of the wall. We strolled through constitution park. Isabella loved the ducks, geese and aqua. We then walked through the WWII memorial and past the Washington monument. All beautiful. All awe inspiring. Robert and I were surprised that the university students have their softball intramural practice on the grounds next to such sites. :). We headed back to the hotel and had an amazing Italian meal at Bistro Bistro. They could give Mr galliuzi and his meatballs a run for the money!

DC Trip Day four

We stopped in Starbucks for a quick breakfast before heading to the capitol. It was a beautiful cool morning, gear walking weather. The security was tight, as it should be. The guards were so sweet Isabella as we waited in line. She got a junior officer sucker badge and thought it was pretty cool. We went through the tour, about 50 minutes. It was full if amazing sites, history, statues and everything was so well kept. After the tour we tried to find shelia Jakaon Lee, our representative, to get tickets to sit in on the house. Isabella, come to find out, is too young to sit in on the senate. One of the tour guides was charmed by Isabella and gave us passes so we didn't have to walk all the way down the hill and back. We were and are so thankful. More security stops and we were in the house. They were having a recess so we dint see and business but were still able to get the upclose and personal seat. Isabella asked if we were in church. :). It was very quite and there was a sense of reverence just like in church. We headed to Ebbits for lunch. It has it's own Presidential history! Isabella ate like a champ. Great food.

DC trip - day 3

This morning we had a slow start. We walked to a neighborhood coffee shop, dolce vita. The coffee was amazing. We shared some scones and muffins. Yum. Then we headed to union station to take a tour with the DC ducks. Isabella loves the metro train. She also Loved the duck. They are WWII carriers that can go on land and water. Our captain gave us an informational and fun tour around the major DC sites. Then the duck drives right into the Potomac and you get to see more if DC but by way of water. Isabella thought this was soooo cool. Robert and I agreed. They give you quackers to quack back to union station. Pictures and video of that coming soon. :). Then we headed to the air and space museum. Totally cool. The planes, spaceships, rockets. We were all amazed. We met up with my sweet friend Carolyn for dinner. Bit was good food and great conversation. We are loving this city.

DC trip- day two

We walked over to Kramerbooks & Afterwords for Sunday brunch. It was quite tasty and just what we needed to gear up for a day at the national zoo. After filling our tummies, we headed for isabellas train (the metro). The national zoo is huge.  It's also free!  We saw many different kinds of animals. A first for all three of us was the panda bear. He was munching on 30lbs of bamboo. Isabella picked up the word panda super easy and the wore it out. If the poor guy didn't know he was a panda before we came- he definitely knows now. We headed for the lions and tigers, isabellas favorites. The walkways were beautiful. The troop of guerillas was impressive.  We also enjoyed the air conditioned animal houses. It's amazing what we can learn from our animal friends. After the zoo, we took a walk through Woodley Park. Isabella thought the stream was cool.  Robert and I got a nice work out.  Feel free to compliment the tone in our calf muscles.  We stopped for a drink break and headed back to the motel for naps. Day one - DC Trip 2011

After driving, flying and driving we made it to dc. Isabella did great. She loved riding the bus shuttle at the airport. She thought it was so cool that they gave us cookies with daddy's letter while we were on the plane (Lorna Doones). We checked in and had a nice lunch at a neighborhood Italian cafe. Robert figured out the metro and then we hoofed it to the white house! It's really huge. We then headed to the museum of American history. We did two of the three floors- not bad for and afternoon.
